“…Rasta Kunda…” means “…The place where Rasta lives…”
Rasta is the nickname of Sabaty YaYa Bayo.
Sabaty is well known in the Gambia. You can ask people on every corner of any street they will know Rasta. In the early nineties Sabaty started a camp for Eco-tourism on the Gunjur beach.. He gave it his name Rasta Kunda.
Rasta Kunda is a beach camp where the culture of Rasta and Reggae music are the daily vitamins. The camp is very basic but those who once stayed there always return.
It’s a great pleasure to live in the camp. Far away from the, sometimes embarrassing, tourists.
Sabaty travelled a lot all over Europe and visit Jamaica. With his background he know exactly where his guests are coming from and where they are looking for. His hospitality is endless for those who like to assist him in his daily work..
From out of the camp there are many possibilities to explore the country The Gambia.
This country also called “The smiling coast of Africa”. Sabaty can talk for hours about his fascinating homeland. He can point you in the right directions for day trips or show you the most beautiful spots in the Gunjur area.
Looking out of the window of the “restaurant” you have a wonderful view on the Atlantic ocean. Sabaty can teach you the local way of fishing. You will be very surprised to catch a big Barracuda, a Ladyfish or even a Lobster. Fish never tasted as good as in Rasta Kunda.
After a twenty minutes walk along the beachside you will arrive at the Gunjur Fishing side with his colourful market. From here the fishermen leaving every day with their boats.
It is a great spectacular to see them coming in. Everybody is helping them to come ashore. The women are always there waiting for the men and prepare the fish for the market.
Rasta Kunda is THE place for those who are looking for holyday without disco’s,
swimming pool bar’s and funny commercial tourist entertaining. Rasta Kunda is THE place for people who are looking for a holyday where they can respectful share the beauty of mother nature.
